ประวัติความเป็นมาของ ASEAN
ASEAN ย่อมาจาก Association of SouthEast Asian Nations หรือ สมาคมประชาชาติแห่งเอเซียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ เป็นองค์กรระดับภูมิภาค ก่อตั้งขึ้นโดย 5 ประเทศ คือ อินโดนีเซีย มาเลเซีย ฟิลิปปินส์ สิงคโปร์ และไทย โดยร่วมกันจัดทำปฏิญญาอาเซียน ชื่อว่า ปฏิญญากรุงเทพฯ ลงนามที่ประเทศไทย เมื่อวันที่ 8 สิงหาคม พ.ศ. 2510
ปัจจุบันสมาชิกอาเซียนมี 10 ประเทศ มีเป้าหมายว่าจะเข้าสู่ความเป็นประชาคมอาเซียน
8 สิงหาคม พ.ศ. 2510 : ไทย อินโดนีเซีย มาเลเซีย ฟิลิปปินส์ และสิงคโปร์ ร่วมก่อตั้งอาเซียน
7 มกราคม พ.ศ 2527 : บรูไนเข้าร่วมเป็นสมาชิก
28 กรกฎาคม พ.ศ 2538 : เวียดนามเข้าร่วมเป็นสมาชิก
23 กรกฎาคม พ.ศ 2540 : ลาวและเมียนมาร์(พม่า) เข้าร่วมเป็นสมาชิก
9 เมษายน พ.ศ 2542 : กัมพูชา เข้าร่วมเป็นสมาชิก
โดยที่มีจุดประสงค์ในการที่จัดตั้งขึ้นมาจาก เพื่อเพิ่มอำนาจในการต่อรองด้านการค้ากับชาติมหาอำนาจ เพื่อให้สะดวกในการที่จะแลกเปลี่ยนสินค้ากับประเทศสมาชิกอาเซียน ส่งเสริมให้ประชาชนในอาเซียนมีความเป็นอยู่และคุณภาพชีวิตที่ดี และส่งเสริมความร่วมมือและความช่วยเหลือซึ่งกันและกันในทางเศรษฐกิจ สังคม วัฒนธรรม เทคโนโลยี วิทยาศาสตร์ และการบริหาร ทั้งนี้ยังมีช่วยในการพัฒนาทางด้านการศึกษาของประชาชนในสมาชิกอาเซียนความเจริญก้าวหน้ามากขึ้น
ดวงตราอาเซียน เป็น สัญลักษณ์เพื่อแสดงถึงความเป็นอาเซียน โดยมีลักษณะเป็นรูปรวงข้าวสีเหลือง 10 ต้นมัดรวมกันไว้ บนพื้นหลังสีแดงอยู่ในวงกลมเส้นสีขาวและเส้นสีน้ำเงินซึ่งหมายถึง ประเทศสมาชิกรวมตัวกันเพื่อมิตรภาพและความเป็นหนึ่งเดียวกัน พื้นที่วงกลม สีแดง สีขาว และน้ำเงิน ซึ่งแสดง ถึงความเป็นเอกภาพ มีตัวอักษรคำว่า “asean” สีน้ำเงิน อยู่ใต้ภาพรวงข้าวอันแสดงถึงความมุ่งมั่นที่จะทำงานร่วมกันเพื่อความมั่นคง สันติภาพ เอกภาพ และความก้าวหน้าของประเทศสมาชิกอาเซียน ซึ่งสีที่ใช้ก็ให้ความหมายในลักษณะดังกล่าว
สีน้ำเงิน หมายถึง สันติภาพและความมั่นคง
สีแดง หมายถึง ความกล้าหาญ และความก้าวหน้า
สีขาว หมายถึง ความบริสุทธิ์
สีเหลือง หมายถึง ความเจริญรุ่งเรือง
ปัจจุบันอาเซียนมีประเทศสมาชิกทั้งหมด 10 ประเทศ อยู่คือ Brunei Darussalam , Cambodia , Indonesia , Lao , Malaysia , Philippines , Singapore , Thailand , Vietnam and Myanmar
