เป็นพุทธสถานที่ก่อนหน้านี้ดิฉันมีความคิดว่าอยากจะไปมาก ด้วยคำบอกเล่าจากใครหลายคนที่ชอบเดินทางเพื่อไปสักการะบูชาพุทธรูป เป็นวัดที่สักการะพระพุทธรูปหินอ่อนสีขาวที่ใหญ่ที่สุดในปัจจุบันนี้ วัดป่าภูก้อนดำรงคงอยู่ด้วยความสมดุลของป่าไม้ที่ทวีความอุดมสมบูรณ์ขึ้นทุกคืนวัน โดยบุคคลผู้มีความศรัทธาและระลึกคุณของสรรพสิ่งทั้งหลายของชาติและแผ่นดินอันเป็นที่กำเนิดแห่งชีวิต โดยมีคุณพระพุทธศาสนาเป็นเครื่องสำนึก และมีพระมหากรุณาธิคุณของพระมหากษัตริย์ที่ชาวไทยทุกคนควรทดแทน เป็นกำลังใจส่งเสริมพระสงฆ์ผู้ปฎิบัติดีปฎิบัติชอบให้ดำรงปฏิปทาของพระป่ากรรมฐานเพื่อบูชาคุณพระพุทธ พระธรรม พระสงฆ์ จนถึงที่สุด
องค์พระมหาเจดีย์แห่งนี้ เป็น 1 ใน “โครงการเฉลิมพระเกียรติ พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัว เนื่องในวโรกาสพระราชพิธีมหามงคล เฉลิมพระชนมพรรษา 6 รอบ 5 ธันวาคม พ.ศ. 2542” และได้อัญเชิญตราสัญลักษณ์ และพระรูปหล่อพระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัว มาประดิษฐานภายในองค์พระมหาเจดีย์ด้วย
ด้วยความสง่างามและความศักดิ์สิทธิ์ของอาณาเขตพุทธอุทยาน และป่าสงวนแห่งชาติบนเนื้อที่กว่า 3,000 ไร่ ที่กรมป่าไม้ได้ให้วัดป่าภูก้อนช่วยดูแลงานด้านป่าไม้ (เพิ่มขึ้นจากพื้นที่พุทธอุทยานเดิมอีก 2,000 ไร่) เพื่อรักษาป้องกันไฟป่าและการบุกรุกทำลายป่าล่าสัตว์ วัดป่าภูก้อนจึงเป็นที่สงบสัปปายะ วิเวกควรแก่การบำเพ็ญภาวนารักษากายวาจาและจิตใจในกรรมฐานเป็นที่สุด ดังมีผู้ได้พบเห็นหลักฐานความอัศจรรย์ของธรรมชาติแห่งนี้อยู่เสมอ คณะศรัทธา จึงร่วมกันดำริสร้างพระมหาเจดีย์ นามว่า “พระปฐมรัตนบูรพาจารย์มหาเจดีย์” โดยมีวัตถุประสงค์สำคัญคือ อัญเชิญพระบรมสารีริกธาตุขึ้นประดิษฐานในสถานที่อันสมควรเพื่อสักการะบูชา และแสดงกตัญญูกตเวทิตาแด่คุณของพระพุทธ พระธรรม พระสงฆ์ และบุรพอาจารย์กรรมฐานในแถบอีสาน ทั้งยังเป็นมงคลสถานที่พุทธศาสนิกชน จะได้ตระหนักถึงคุณค่าและความสำคัญของป่าไม้อันให้ประโยชน์ทั้งทางโลกและทางธรรม เป็นที่ปฏิบัติขัดเกลาจิตใจ และเป็นศูนย์รวมจิตใจของชาวอีสาน ซึ่งควรร่วมกันส่งเสริมรักษาอย่างจริงจังตลอดไป
