ฮาโรลด์ เจ. เลวิทท์(Harold Leavitt, 1984, p.16) กล่าวว่าก่อนที่มนุษย์เราจะแสดง พฤติกรรมอย่างหนึ่งอย่างใดออกมามักจะมีสิ่งบอกเหตุที่จะทำให้เกิดพฤติกรรมเสียก่อนซึ่งมูลเหตุดังกล่าวอาจจะเรียกว่า“กระบวนการของพฤติกรรม” (process of behavior) และกระบวนการของมนุษย์นั้นจะมีลักษณะที่คล้ายกัน 3 ประการ คือ
