ประเพณีบุญเบิกฟ้า

ช่วงเวลา วันขึ้น ๓ ค่ำ เดือน ๓ ของทุก ๆ ปี (อยู่ระหว่างปลายเดือนมกราคม-ต้นเดือนกุมภาพันธ์)

ความสำคัญ

ประเพณีบุญเบิกฟ้า เป็นประเพณีของชาวมหาสารคามที่ประกอบขึ้นตามความเชื่อว่า เมื่อถึงวันขึ้น ๓ ค่ำ เดือน ๓ ของทุกๆ ปี ฟ้าจะเริ่มไขประตูฝน โดยจะมีเสียงฟ้าร้อง และทิศที่ฟ้าร้องเป็นสัญญาณบ่งบอกตัวกำหนดปริมาณน้ำฝนที่จะตกลงมาหล่อเลี้ยงการเกษตรในปีนั้น ๆ
ตำนานโบราณกล่าวถึงทิศที่ฟ้าร้องว่า

ด้วยความเชื่อตามตำนานดังกล่าว ชาวมหาสารคามจึงมีประเพณีบุญเบิกฟ้า (เดิมเรียกว่าบุญเบิกบ้าน) เพื่อขอพรจากแถน (เทพผู้เป็นใหญ่) ให้ไขประตูฟ้าทางทิศที่เป็นมงคล
อนึ่งในวันขึ้น ๓ ค่ำ เดือน ๓ จะมีปรากฏการณ์มหัศจรรย์เกิดขึ้น ๓ อย่างคือ

พิธีกรรม
