สืบเนื่องจากตั้งแต่อดีตถึงปัจจุบันหาดท้ายเหมืองเป็นหาดที่มีเต่าขึ้นวางไข่ทุกปีในช่วงฤดูวางไข่ เพราะพื้นที่ชายหาดมีความยาวถึง 13.6 กิโลเมตร ซึ่งพื้นที่ส่วนหนึ่งอยู่ในเขตอุทยานแห่งชาติเขาลำปี-หาดท้ายเหมือง หาดท้ายเหมืองชายฝั่งตะวันตกของทะเลอันดามัน เป็นชายหาดที่เป็นแหล่งวางไข่ที่สำคัญแห่งหนึ่งของเต่าทะเล เนื่องจากลักษณะหาดกว้าง มีจุดสูงสุดที่น้ำทะเลขึ้นไปไม่ถึง และตลอดแนวชายหาดเงียบสงบปราศจากสิ่งรบกวน
