เมื่อวันที่ 25 พ.ย. 58 ที่ศูนย์ประชุมสหประชาชาติ กรมกิจการสตรีและสถาบันครอบครัว (สค.) กระทรวงการพัฒนาสังคมและความมั่นคงของมนุษย์ (พม.) ร่วมกับองค์การเพื่อการส่งเสริมความเสมอภาคระหว่างเพศและเพิ่มพลังของผู้หญิงแห่งสหประชาติ หรือ UN Women และภาคีเครือข่าย จัดกิจกรรมรณรงค์ยุติความรุนแรงต่อเด็ก สตรี และความรุนแรงในครอบครัวประจำปี 2558 โดยมีการเดินรณรงค์พร้อมโบกธงสัญลักษณ์แสดงพลังภาคีเครือข่ายยุติความรุนแรง บริเวณหน้าอาคารสหประชาชาติ

จากนั้นมีการจัดเสวนา ในหัวข้อ "มองอนาคต...อาเซียนที่ ไร้ความรุนแรงต่อเด็ก สตรี และความรุนแรงในครอบครัว" โดยนายเลิศปัญญา บูรณบัณฑิต อธิบดีกรมกิจการสตรีและสถาบันครอบครัว กล่าวว่า รัฐบาลและพม. ตระหนักถึงความรุนแรงต่อเด็ก สตรี ครอบครัว เป็นปัญหาเร่งด่วนที่ต้องเร่งแก้ไข ซึ่งในรอบปี 2558 สค.ได้เน้นการสร้างความเข้มแข็งของครอบครัว โดยเฉพาะการสร้างทัศนคติไม่ยอมรับ ไม่นิ่งเฉย ไม่กระทำความรุนแรงเอง ผ่านโครงการสร้างตำบลเข้มแข็งไร้ความรุนแรงดำเนินการโดยศูนย์พัฒนาครอบครัว 1,000 ตำบล ในจำนวนดังกล่าวมี 800 ตำบล ดำเนินการผ่านเกณฑ์สามารถลดความรุนแรงได้เห็นผล ในปี 2559 นี้จะขยายผลในอีก 3,000 ตำบล

นอกจากนี้ สค.กำลังปรับปรุง พ.ร.บ.คุ้มครองผู้ถูกกระทำด้วยความรุนแรงในครอบครัว พ.ศ. 2550 โดยแนวทางหนึ่งคือ การนำผู้กระทำความรุนแรงมาปรับพฤติกรรม ซึ่งจากสถิติที่ผ่านมาผู้กระทำความรุนแรงส่วนใหญ่คือ คู่สมรส คนใกล้ชิด คนในครอบครัว ขณะเดียวกันก็มีความร่วมมือกับกระทรวงศึกษาธิการในการจัดทำหลักสูตรความเท่าเทียมทางเพศ เพื่อสอนตั้งแต่ระดับอนุบาล

ทั้งนี้ จากข้อมูลที่รับรู้ผ่านสื่อและการร้องเรียนผ่านช่องทางต่างๆ สะท้อนถึงความรุนแรงมีแนวโน้มเพิ่มขึ้น สาเหตุส่วนหนึ่งมาจากความเป็นครอบครัวเดี่ยว ครอบครัวฟันหลอ รวมถึงสิ่งเสพติดที่นำไปสู่การกระทำความรุนแรงในครอบครัว ดังนั้นการสร้างความรู้ความเข้าใจในเรื่องความเท่าเทียมทางเพศแต่เด็กจะนำไป สู่พลังสร้างสรรค์ในอนาคต ขณะที่คนรุ่นเก่าก็ต้องปรับเปลี่ยนทัศนคติในเรื่องความเท่าเทียมทางเพศ

ด้าน นางกานดา วัชราภัย คณะกรรมาธิการอาเซียนด้านการส่งเสริมและคุ้มครองสิทธิสตรีและเด็ก กล่าวว่า สถานการณ์ความรุนแรงต่อเด็กและสตรีในอาเซียนไม่มีแนวโน้มลดลงแต่กลับเพิ่มขึ้น ที่น่าห่วงคือ ความรุนแรงรูปแบบใหม่ที่มาในโลกไซเบอร์ ซึ่งส่งผลกระทบมากขึ้นทั้งเด็กและสตรี แม้เกือบทุกประเทศในอาเซียนจะมีกฎหมายป้องกันและแก้ปัญหาความรุนแรง แต่สิ่งสำคัญคือ การนำไปบังคับใช้ให้เกิดผลเป็นรูปธรรม ซึ่งตรงนี้ยังเป็นจุดอ่อนในหลายประเทศ

อย่างไรก็ตามในการประชุมสุดยอดผู้นำอาเซียน เมื่อวันที่ 20-22 พ.ย. 2558 ที่มาเลเซีย ได้เห็นชอบในร่างนโยบายและแผนปฏิบัติการว่าด้วยการขจัดความรุนแรงต่อเด็กและสตรีของอาเซียน เป็นแผนปฏิบัติการระหว่างปี 2559-2573 ให้สมาชิกอาเซียนดำเนินการตามมาตรการต่างๆ
