จังหวัดนครราชสีมาเป็นจังหวัดที่ตั้งอยู่ในภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือ อยู่บนที่ราบสูงโคราช ห่างจากกรุงเทพ 259 กิโลเมตร มีพื้นที่ทั้งหมด 20,493.964 ตารางกิโลเมตร (12,808,728 ไร่) เป็นพื้นที่ป่าไม้ 2,297,735 ไร่ โดยส่วนใหญ่เป็นพื้นที่อุทยานแห่งชาติคืออุทยานแห่งชาติเขาใหญ่และอุทยานแห่งชาติทับลานร้อยละ 61.4 และเป็นแหล่งน้ำ 280,313 ไร่[3] ทิศเหนือติดต่อกับจังหวัดชัยภูมิ และขอนแก่น ทิศใต้ติดต่อกับจังหวัดปราจีนบุรี นครนายก และสระแก้ว ทิศตะวันออกติดต่อกับจังหวัดบุรีรัมย์ และทิศตะวันตกติดต่อกับจังหวัดสระบุรี ชัยภูมิ และลพบุรี
