ประวัติความเป็นมา
ปราสาทตระเปียงเตีย หรือ ตะเปียงเตีย ตั้งอยู่ที่ วัดปราสาทเทพนิมิต บ้านหนองเกาะ ตำบลตะเปียงเตีย อำเภอลำดวน จังหวัดสุรินทร์ มีลักษณะเป็นปรางค์ก่อด้วยอิฐ หันหน้าไปทางทิศตะวันออก มีแผนผังเป็นรูปสี่เหลี่ยมจัตุรัสซ้อนกัน4ชั้น ส่วนยอดทำเป็นรูปดอกบัวตูม เมื่อพิจารณาจากลักษณะสถาปัตยกรรม พบว่าเป็นแบบลาวร่วมสมัยกับอยุธยาตอนปลาย หรือรัตนโกสินทร์ตอนต้น
ชื่อปราสาทสันิษฐานว่ามาจากชื่อหนองน้ำขนาดใหญ่พอสมควร ซึ่งอยู่ห่างวัดไปราว 1 กิโลเมตรเศษ ชาวบ้านเรียกชื่อ ตระเปียงเตีย แปลตรงตัวว่า หนองเป็ด เพราะในอดีตช่วงฤดูหนาวจะมีเป็ดป่าบินมาลงเล่นน้ำทุกปี
