ดินเปรี้ยวจัด หรือ ดินกรดจัด ในประเทศไทย มีอยู่ประมาณ 9 ล้านไร่ โดย 5 ล้านไร่ หรือ กว่าครึ่งหนึ่งของดินเปรี้ยวทั้งหมด อยู่บริเวณที่ราบลุ่มภาคกลาง โดยเฉพาะบริเวณที่เรียกกันว่า ที่ราบลุ่มกรุงเทพฯ โดยมีพื้นที่ราวร้อยละ 35 ของพื้นที่ราบลุ่มนี้ ที่เหลือพบกระจัดกระจายอยู่ตามชายฝั่งทะเลตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ บริเวณลุ่มน้ำจันทบุรี ชายฝั่งทะเลด้านตะวันตกและตะวันออกของภาคใต้ เช่น ที่ สงขลา นราธิวาส และ ปัตตานี ดินบริเวณที่ราบลุ่มภาคกลาง แบ่งออกได้เป็น 3 ส่วน คือ
1. พื้นที่สามเหลี่ยมปากแม่น้ำเก่า (Old delta) ครอบคลุมพื้นที่จังหวัดชัยนาท สิงห์บุรี สุพรรณบุรี ลพบุรี อ่างทอง และ พระนครศรีอยุธยา มีพื้นที่ประมาณ 3.6 ล้านไร่ เกิดจากการทับถมของตะกอนที่พัดพาโดยแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยา และ แม่น้ำสุพรรณบุรี สูงจากระดับน้ำทะเล 15 เมตรโดยประมาณที่จังหวัดชัยนาท แล้วลาดเทลงมาทางใต้ จนถึงจังหวัดพระนครศรีอยุธยา มีความสูงจากระดับน้ำทะเลประมาณ 5 เมตร เป็นดินนาชั้นดี และไม่เป็นกรด
