วัตถุประสงค์ของการวิจัยครั้งนี้เพื่อศึกษาพฤติกรรมการอ่านของนักศึกษาหลักสูตรสาขาวิชาภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อการสื่อสารสากล คณะศิลปศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยเทคโนโลยีราชมงคลศรีวิชัย สงขลา กลุ่มตัวอย่างในการศึกษาครั้งนี้ คือ นักศึกษา คณะศิลปศาสตร์ หลักสูตรสาขาวิชาภาษาอังกฤษเพื่อการสื่อสารสากลชั้นปีที่ 1 และ ชั้นปีที่ 2 (ภาคสมทบ) จำนวน 40 คน เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการวิจัยคือ แบบสอบถาม วิเคราะห์ข้อมูลโดยการหาค่าร้อยละ (Mean) ค่าเฉลี่ย x ̅ และค่าเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน (S.D.)
ผลการศึกษา พบว่าหนังสือที่นักศึกษาชอบอ่าน คือ นิตยสาร/วารสาร หนังสือการ์ตูน และหนังสือเรียน ตามลำดับ นักศึกษาชอบอ่านหนังสือในช่วงก่อนนอน ช่วงหลังเลิกเรียน และ ช่วงเวลาที่รอเรียน โดยนิยมอ่านหนังสือในที่พักอาศัย อ่านในร้านกาแฟ และ อ่านในห้องสมุด ตามลำดับ นักศึกษาชอบอ่านหนังสือภาษาไทย ภาษาอังกฤษ และ ภาษาจีน โดยมีวัตถุประสงค์ในการอ่าน คือ อ่านเพื่อความเพลิดเพลิน อ่านเพื่อสอบ และ อ่านเพื่อศึกษาหาความรู้ ตามลำดับ นักศึกษาชอบอ่านหนังสือคนเดียว อ่านกับเพื่อน และ อ่านกับบุคคลในครอบครัว ตามลำดับ ระยะเวลาที่นักศึกษาใช้ในการอ่าน คือ 30 นาที - 1 ชั่วโมง นักศึกษาได้เขียนสรุปประเด็นหรือจดบันทึกเกี่ยวกับหนังสือบ้างเป็นบางครั้ง

ผลการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลแบบประเมินพฤติกรรมการอ่านในภาพรวมพบว่า นักศึกษามีพฤติกรรมการอ่านอยู่ในระดับปานกลาง นักศึกษารู้สึกมีความสุขเมื่อได้อ่านหนังสือ เมื่อเดินผ่านร้านหนังสือนักศึกษามักจะแวะไปอ่านหนังสือในร้านหนังสือ และจะแนะนำหนังสือที่ได้อ่านให้เพื่อนๆอ่าน
ผลการวิจัยครั้งนี้แสดงให้เห็นถึงพฤติกรรมการอ่านหนังสือของนักศึกษาในแต่ละด้าน ข้อมูลที่ได้จากผลการวิจัย สามารถเป็นข้อเสนอแนะเพื่อเป็นแนวทางในการนำไปพัฒนาในรายวิชาการอ่านต่อไป

The purpose of this research to study the reading habits of students of English major courses for international communication. The length of time that students use to read 1 hour 30 minutes-is the student has written a summary of the issues, or a note about some books.
