แหล่งข่าวระดับสูงจากกระทรวงอุตสาหกรรม เปิดเผยกับ "ฐานเศรษฐกิจ" ว่า จากกรณีที่มีการกำหนดให้ฝุ่นจากเตาหลอมเหล็ก หรือ "ฝุ่นแดง" เป็นวัตถุอันตรายตามอนุสัญญาบาเซล จะสามารถส่งออกได้ต่อเมื่อได้รับความยินยอมจากประเทศปลายทาง ซึ่งนับตั้งแต่เดือนกรกฎาคม 2554 จนถึงปัจจุบันมีผู้ประกอบการที่ยื่นเรื่องขออนุญาตส่งออกอย่างถูกต้องตามขั้นตอนที่ระบุไว้ในอนุสัญญาบาเซลเพียง 3 บริษัท ได้แก่ 1.บริษัท เอส.เอ. สยามรีคัฟเวอร์รี่ จำกัด ขอส่งออกไปยังประเทศเวียดนาม 3 รายการ รวม 560,000 ตัน 2.บริษัท เอ็นซีที ซัพพลาย จำกัด ขอส่งออกไปยังประเทศเวียดนาม 1 รายการ รวม 15,000 ตัน และ 3.ห้างหุ้นส่วนจำกัด นิวไลฟ์ เวิลด์ เมทัล ทำเรื่องขอส่งออกไปยัง สปป.ลาว 30,000 ตัน เวียดนาม 70,000 ตัน และส่งออกไปยังสาธารณรัฐประชาชนจีน 70,000 ตัน รวมทั้งสิ้น 170,000 ตัน
