แต่เดิมวัดสวนแก้วเคยเป็นวัดร้างมาถึง 80 ปี มีหลวงพ่อเทียน จิตตสุโภ และพระภิกษุอีก 3-4 รูป พำนักอยู่ ต่อมาพระพยอมกับเพื่อนพระภิกษุอีก 2 รูปได้เดินทางมาจากวัดสวนโมกขพลาราม เมื่อปี พ.ศ.2521 เพื่อขอทำการบวชเณรภาคฤดูร้อน และในปีพ.ศ.2522 หลวงพ่อเทียน จิตตสุโภ ได้มอบหมายให้พระพยอม เป็นผู้ดูแลวัด เพราะหลวงพ่อเทียนจะกลับไปพำนักที่จังหวัดเลย ตั้งแต่นั้นมา วัดได้เปลี่ยนชื่อเป็น "วัดสวนแก้ว" พร้อมกับจัดตั้ง "มูลนิธิสวนแก้ว" ขึ้นอีกด้วย
ด้วยสภาพแวดล้อมของวัดมีอาณาเขตที่กว้างขวางล้อมรอบด้วยต้นไม้ใหญ่ให้ความร่มเขียวครึ้ม มีพระอุโบสถธรรมชาติเป็นลานกว้างที่มีต้นไม้ใหญ่ให้ร่มเงาประดุจหลังคา ซึ่งจะเป็นที่สำหรับพุทธศาสนิกชนมาฟังเทศน์ฟังธรรม นั่งสมาธิกันทุกวัน
