โครงงานมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อลดเวลาในการทำงานของพนักงานในร้านค้าปลีก ซึ่งขอบเขตของโครงงานคือการศึกษาวิธีการทำงานของพนักงานเพื่อลดเวลาในการทำงาน ขั้นตอนในการดำเนินโครงงานประกอบด้วย(1)ประชุมเพื่อเลือกงานที่จะศึกษา (2)บันทึกวิธีการทำงานจริงที่ทำอยู่ปัจจุบัน (3) วิเคราะห์โดยพิจารณารายละเอียดของข้อมูลที่บันทึกไว้ (4) พัฒนาวิธีการทำงานที่ดีกว่าของพนักงานในร้านค้าปลีก (5) การกำหนดเป็นมาตรฐาน (6) นำวิธีการทำงานใหม่ไปใช้ (7) วัดผลการปรับปรุงงาน ซึ่งการปรับปรุงงานในโครงงานนี้ เน้นหนักไปที่การปรับปรุงอุปกรณ์ใหม่และออกแบบวิธีกกการทำงานใหม่ ผลจากการศึกษาพบว่า เวลาในการทำงานของพนักงานลดลง การรอคอยของลูกค้าลดลง ความเมื่อยล้าของพนักงานลดลง ซึ่งแนวทางการปรับปรุงงานที่ได้จากโครงงานนี้ สามารถนำไปประยุกต์ใช้กับการทำงานในร้านค้าปลีกอื่นๆได้
