พิพิธภัณฑสถานแห่งชาติ พาณิชย์นาวี เป็นสถานที่เก็บรักษาโบราณวัตถุใต้ท้องทะเลจำนวนมากกว่าหมื่นชิ้นแห่งเดียวในเมืองไทย

เกิดมาจากการที่กรมศิลปากร ได้ตั้งฐานปฏิบัติการโบราณคดีใต้น้ำขึ้นที่ท่าแฉลบ และตั้งศูนย์การอนุรักษ์โบราณวัตถุใต้ทะเลขึ้นที่ ค่ายเนินวง ต.บางกจะ อ.เมือง จ.จันทบุรี ซึ่งได้มีการสำรวจทางโบราณคดีใต้น้ำพบโบราณวัตถุจากซากเรือจมในอดีตมากมาย

พิพิธภัณฑ์แห่งนี้ มีลักษณะเป็นอาคารแฝด 2 ชั้น ภายในมีการแบ่งห้องจัดแสดงออกเป็น 6 ห้อง อาทิ ห้องจัดแสดงสินค้าและวิถีชีวิตชาวเรือ ห้องแนะนำปฏิบัติการโบราณคดีใต้น้ำ ห้องคลังเก็บโบราณวัตถุ ห้องแสดงเรือและชีวิตชาวเรือ ห้องของดีเมืองจันท์ และห้องบุคคลสำคัญ
