วัตถุประสงค์ขององค์การการค้าโลก คือ

2. เป็นเวทีในการเจรจาลดอุปสรรคทางการค้าระหว่างประเทศสมาชิก ทั้งมาตรการภาษีและมาตรการที่มิใช่ภาษีศุลกากร
3. ติดตามสถานการณ์การค้าระหว่างประเทศ และจัดให้มีการทบทวนนโยบายการค้าของสมาชิกอย่างสม่ำเสมอ
4. ให้ความช่วยเหลือแก่ประเทศกำลังพัฒนาในด้านข้อมูล และข้อแนะนำ เพื่อให้สามารถปฏิบัติตามพันธกรณีได้
5. ประสานงานกับกองทุนการเงินระหว่างประเทศ (IMF) และธนาคารโลก (World Bank) เพื่อให้นโยบายเศรษฐกิจโลกสอดคล้องกันยิ่งขึ้น
