บทที่ 3.  ให้ทานด้วยจิตเลื่อมใสมาก
ย่อมได้บุญมาก


 

ปัจจุบันมีความเข้าใจผิดกันในหมู่ชาวพุทธ ในเรื่องของการทำบุญให้ทาน
 
บางพวกก็ว่า
“ให้ทานมากได้บุญมาก ถูกต้อง
เพราะเศรษฐี ๑๐๐ ล้าน ทำบุญ ๑๐ บาท
กับทำบุญหมื่นบาท จะได้บุญเท่ากันได้อย่างไร”
บางพวกก็ว่า
“ไม่ถูก ถ้าให้ทานมากได้บุญมาก
อย่างนี้คนจน ก็หมดสิทธิได้บุญมากสิ”

ความจริงชาวพุทธทั้ง ๒ กลุ่มนี้ไม่ได้ขัดกันเลย เพียงแต่ไปจับประเด็นที่ปลายเหตุเท่านั้น
พระสัมมาสัมพุทธเจ้า ทรงสอนหลักการให้ทานให้ได้บุญมาก ว่าต้องประกอบด้วยองค์ ๓ ดังนี้
๑. วัตถุบริสุทธิ์ สิ่งของที่ให้ทานได้มาด้วยความบริสุทธิ์ ไม่ได้ไปคดโกง ลักขโมยมา
๒. เจตนาบริสุทธิ์ มีจิตเลื่อมใสทั้งก่อนให้ทาน ขณะให้ทาน และหลังให้ทาน
๓. บุคคลบริสุทธิ์ ผู้รับยิ่งเป็นผู้มีศีล มีคุณธรรมสูงเพียงใด เราก็ได้บุญมากไปตามส่วน

ในกรณีถกเถียงกันนี้ ประเด็นอยู่ที่ข้อ ๑ และ ข้อ ๒ คำกล่าวที่ครบถ้วนคือ

“ให้ทานด้วยจิตเลื่อมใสมาก ได้บุญมาก”

ผู้ที่บอกว่า “ให้ทานมาก ได้บุญมากนั้น” เป็นการพูดไม่ครบ เพราะคนที่จะให้ทานมากได้นั้น ต้องมีจิตเลื่อมใสมากก่อน ไม่อย่างนั้นใครจะไปให้ทานได้ครั้งละมาก ๆ

จิตที่เลื่อมใส คือต้นเหตุแห่งการให้ทาน

ในกรณีเป็นเศรษฐีที่มีทรัพย์มากเท่ากัน ผู้ที่ให้ทานด้วยเงินหนึ่งหมื่นบาท ย่อมได้บุญมากกว่าเศรษฐีที่ให้ทานด้วยเงินสิบบาท เพราะแสดงว่ามีจิตเลื่อมใสมากกว่า
ส่วนคนที่ยากจนแสนเข็ญ เขาอาจให้ทานด้วยเงินเพียงบาทเดียว แต่เมื่อทำด้วยจิตเลื่อมใสมาก เขาก็ได้บุญมากมหาศาล เพราะทรัพย์เพียงบาทเดียวนั้น อาจเป็นเงินทั้งหมดที่เขามีอยู่ในขณะนั้น

อนาถบิณฑิกเศรษฐีทำบุญเพื่อเอาบุญจริง ๆ ไม่ได้ต้องการชื่อเสียงหน้าตาอะไรเลย รับคำทันที เพราะเห็นว่าเจ้าเชตเป็นผู้มีชื่อเสียง มีอำนาจ ใช้เป็นชื่อวัดก็จะยิ่งช่วยในการเผยแผ่ธรรมะ วัดนั้นจึงได้ชื่อว่า

ถ้าเราเกิดในยุคเดียวกับเศรษฐี แล้วใครไปตำหนิเศรษฐีว่าหลงบุญ บ้าบุญ ก็จะกลายเป็นวิบากกรรมติดตัว ชาติต่อไปจะเกิดเป็นยาจก ถูกคนด่าว่านินทา เศรษฐีซึ่งเป็นอริยบุคคลย่อมมีศรัทธามั่นคงในพระรัตนตรัย ไม่หวั่นไหวด้วยสิ่งใด ๆ เลย

กรณีนี้เป็นแบบอย่างของชาวพุทธผู้เปี่ยมด้วยศรัทธา สมตามคำกล่าวที่ว่า

“บัณฑิตแม้ตกทุกข์ ยังไม่เลิกประพฤติธรรม”

ส่วนตัวของเราแม้ยังศรัทธาไม่เท่าเขา ก็ให้ทานตามกำลังศรัทธา “อย่าให้เดือดร้อนตนเอง อย่าให้เดือดร้อนครอบครัว” จะให้ทานมากน้อยเพียงใด ก็ให้ทำด้วยใจที่เลื่อมใสศรัทธาอย่างเต็มเปี่ยม

เมื่อให้ทานแล้ว ก็ควรรักษาศีลและเจริญสมาธิภาวนาพร้อมกันไปด้วย บุญจะได้ครบถ้วน
