ปัญหาพิเศษนี้มีจุดประสงค์คือการระบุชนิดของต้นกระบองเพชรได้อย่างถูกต้อง ในปัจจุบันอุตสาหกรรมกระบองเพชรเติบโตอย่างต่อเนื่องมีผู้ที่เพาะปลูกกระบองเพชรเป็นจำนวนมากกระบองเพชรมีความหลากหลายทางสายพันธ์ ทำให้เป็นเรื่องยากที่จะระบุกระบองเพชรนั้นเป็นชนิดอะไรด้วยตาเปล่าวิจัยนี้จัดทำขึ้นเพื่อการระบุชนิดของต้นกระบองเพชรได้อย่างถูกต้องและแม่นยำ โดยได้จำแนกชนิดของกระบองเพชรออกเป็น 6 สายพันธุ์ดังนี้ คือ Astrophytum Asterias, Astrophytum Myriostigma, Gymnocalycium Baldianum, Gymnocalycium Mihanovichii, Mammillaria Perbella, Mammillaria Plumosa โดยข้อมูลรูปภาพที่ได้นำมาใช้ในการศึกษาชนิดกระบองเพชรแต่ละสายพันธุ์ชนิดละ 250 รูป ได้ใช้วิธีการเรียนรู้เชิงลึกแบบ Convolutional Neural Network ในการระบุชนิดของกระบองเพชร โดยพบว่ามีค่าความแม่นยำถึง 79 %
