เมื่อเข้าพรรษาแล้วหากภิกษุมีกิจธุระจำเป็น อันชอบด้วยพระวินัย พระพุทธเจ้าก็ทรงอนุญาตให้ไปได้ โดยมีข้อจำกัดว่าจะต้องกลับมายังสถานที่จำพรรษาเดิมภายใน 7 วัน ที่เรียกว่า สัตตาหกรณียะ
