ประวัติความเป็นมา

ตลาดน้ำบางน้ำผึ้ง ตำบลบางน้ำผึ้ง อำเภอพระประแดง จังหวัดสมุทรปราการ มีพื้นที่สีเขียวที่มีรูปร่างคล้ายกระเพาะหมูหรือแอกวัว หรือเรียกว่า คุ้งกระเพาะหมู ซึ่งเป็นพื้นที่เกษตรกรรมที่ปลอดสารพิษ ท่ามกลางความเจริญเติบโตของเมือง มีเนื้อที่รวม 11,819 ไร่ โอบล้อมด้วยแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยา และที่สำคัญคุ้งกระเพาะหมูแห่งนี้ได้ “อนุรักษ์ให้เป็นพื้นที่สีเขียวตั้งแต่ปี 2520 พื้นป่าแห่งนี้จึงเป็นแหล่งผลิตอากาศบริสุทธิ์ ให้กับประชาชนในเขตจังหวัดสมุทรปราการและ กรุงเทพมหานคร ช่วยกรองฝุ่นละอองและมลพิษทางอากาศ ที่เกิดจากโรงงานอุตสาหกรรมที่มีอยู่มากมาย” และส่งผลให้พื้นที่บริเวณคุ้งกระเพาะหมูนี้ มีพันธุ์พืชนานาชนิดขึ้นอย่างหนาแน่น มีพันธุ์นก รวมทั้งแมลงนานาชนิดมาอาศัยอยู่จำนวนมาก



ตลาดน้ำแห่งนี้ถือกำเนิดขึ้นเมื่อปี 2547 เป็นการร่วมมือระหว่างองค์การบริหารส่วนตำบลบางน้ำผึ้งและชาวบ้านในชุมชนเพื่อแก้ไขปัญหาผลผลิตการเกษตรล้นตลาด ซึ่งนับว่าได้ผลดีอย่างไม่น่าเชื่อ นอกจากตลาดน้ำแห่งนี้จะเป็นที่ระบายสินค้าเกษตรแล้วยังสามารถสร้างงานสร้างรายได้ให้กับชุมชนได้เป็นอย่างดี เอกลักษณ์เฉพาะตัวของตลาดน้ำแห่งนี้ คือ ผู้ขายเป็นคนในชุมชน มีการจำกัดจำนวนผู้ขายและสินค้าที่ต้องผลิตขึ้นเอง รายล้อมด้วยวิถีชีวิตชาวบ้านริมคลอง น้ำในคลองที่ยังใสสะอาด ชาวบ้านยังใช้เรือสัญจรไปมาเป็นปกติ ขนถ่ายพืชผลทางการเกษตร และค้าขาย เช่น ผลไม้ ขนมสด ก๋วยเตี๋ยว อาหารแปรรูปและของกินส่วนใหญ่ในตลาดเป็นฝีมือของชาวบ้านในพื้นที่ เช่น ไข่เค็มดินสอพอง ผลิตภัณฑ์จากทะเลอย่างกุ้งแห้ง กะปิ หอยดอง ขนมไทยนานาชนิด เช่น ทองหยอด เม็ดขนุน ฝอยทอง ลูกชุบ กะละแม ข้าวตู ขนมใส่ไส้ นอกจากนี้ก็มีผลไม้จากสวน ที่ขึ้นชื่อที่สุดของที่นี่ คือ มะม่วงน้ำดอกไม้
