การศึกษานี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษา

การศึกษานี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาการก่อตัวและบทบาทที่สำคัญของกลุ่มประชาสังคมผู้หญิงชายแดนใต้ ภายใต้สถานการณ์ไม่สงบในสามจังหวัดชายแดนใต้ เป็นการศึกษาเชิงคุณภาพ โดยการเก็บข้อมูลจากเอกสาร งานวิจัยการสัมภาษณ์
ผลการศึกษาพบว่ากลุ่มผู้หญิงในภาคประชาสังคมได้เริ่มก่อตัวอย่างเด่นชัดในปี พ.ศ.2547 หลังเกิดเหตุการณ์ความไม่สงบในพื้นที่ชายแดนใต้ โดยผู้หญิงได้เข้ามามีบทบาทในการสร้างสันติภาพด้วยวิธีการอย่างสันติวิธี มีลักษณะที่สำคัญ 3 ประเด็น คือ1. การเยียวยา เยี่ยมเยือน ดูแลให้การช่วยเหลือผู้ได้รับผลกระทบ 2.การประสานความเข้าใจระหว่างผู้ที่ได้รับผลกระทบกับหน่วยงานรัฐ 3.ส่งเสริมศักยภาพผู้หญิงให้เข้ามามีบทบาทในการพัฒนา ผ่านโครงการ กิจกรรม ซึ่งบทบาทดังกล่าวเปรียบเสมือนฟันเฟืองที่นำมาสู่การสร้างสันติภาพในการทำงานช่วยเหลือแก่สังคม และการมีพื้นที่สาธารณะในการทำงานภาคประชาสังคม รวมถึงการยอมรับบทบาทของผู้หญิงมากขึ้น
