ปัจจุบันได้มีการปฏิรูประบบการศึกษา โดยสถาบัน การศึกษาต่างๆ ได้มีการจัดการเรียนการสอนตามหลักสูตร
การศึกษาขั้นพื้นฐานพุทธศักราช 2551 และในหลักสูตรได้ กำหนดให้ผู้เรี ยนมี สมรรถนะที่ สำคั ญ5 ประการ สมรรถนะ ที่ สำคั ญของผู้เรี ยน คื อผู้เรี ยนมี ความสามารถในการสื่ อสาร ได้ ซึ่งในที่นี้หมายถึงความสามารถในการฟัง การพูด การ- อ่านและการเขียนภาษาต่างประเทศ แต่ระบบการศึกษาของ ไทยในปัจจุบันยังไม่สามารถตอบสนองต่อความต้องการของ บุคคล สังคมและประเทศเท่าที่ควร เมื่อต้องเผชิญกับความ คาดหวังทางสังคมที่จะทำให้การศึกษามีบทบาทในการเตรียม คนให้พร้อมสำหรับการแข่งขันในสังคมโลก ก็ยิ่งเห็นปัญหา ที่เกิดกับการศึกษามากขึ้น ปัญหาที่ถกเถียงกันมากในแวดวง การศึ กษา คื อเมื่ อผู้เรี ยนเรี ยนจบหลั กสู ตรการศึ กษาไม่ว่า จะเป็นระดับประถมศึกษา ระดับมัธยมศึกษา หรือในระดับ ปริญญาตรีแล้วก็ยังไม่สามารถพูดภาษาอังกฤษได้ดีเท่าที่ควร ซึ่ งปัญหานี้ อาจเกิ ดจากหลายสาเหตุ อาจเนื่ องมาจากครู ผู้สอน
