เหตุที่ได้ชื่อ “โสกแสง” เพราะเมื่อสมัยก่อนลักษณะภูมิประเทศโดยทั่วไปเป็นทีราบลุ่มแต่บริเวณที่ตั้งหมู่บ้านเป็นที่ราบสูง เวลาที่ฝนตกลงมามีน้ำปริมาณมากๆ น้ำไหลจากบริเวณที่ตั้งหมู่บ้านลงไปสู่บริเวณที่ราบลุ่มซึ่งเป็นหนองน้ำที่มีชื่อว่า "หนองแสง" ทำให้เกิดร่องน้ำขนาดใหญ่ขึ้นมา (สมัยก่อนร่องที่น้ำไหลกัดเซาะไปทุกปีภาษาท้องถิ่นเรียกว่า "โสก") มีคนเริ่มเข้ามาอาศัยอยู่ประมาณ 60 ปีที่ผ่านมา และได้ตั้งชื่อบ้านตามลักษณะภูมิประเทศ ที่อ้างถึงข้างต้น เลยได้ชื่อว่า "บ้านโสกแสง"
บ้านโสกแสงเป็นหมู่บ้านที่อุดมสมบูรณ์ไปด้วยพืชพันธุ์ธัญยาหารประชากรสมัยก่อนประกอบอาชีพทำการเกษตรเป็นหลัก อยู่ห่างจากตัวจังหวัด ประมาณ 74 กิโลเมตร การสัญจรไปมาสมัยก่อนต้องเดิน ,ใช้วัวลากเกวียนหรือใช้ม้าเป็นพาหนะ
ตำบลโสกแสง เป็นหนึ่งใน 6 ตำบลของอำเภอนาจะหลวยและได้ยกฐานะจากสภาตำบลเป็นองค์การบริหารส่วนตำบลเมื่อวันที่ 23 กุมภาพันธ์ พ.ศ.2540
