.....During the past 3 decades tourism industry of Thailand has been growing rapidly The number of visiting tourists that has been increasing annually generates large amount of income for the kingdom. At the same time, crimes and taking advantages of tourists has also been on the rise. As a response to this special request the Police Department established a center to help facilitating and providing security for the tourists under the Crime Suppression Division with 60 personnel to receive any petitions or complaints, patrolling and providing security around crowded and tourist areas within Bangkok Metropolis. The private sectors contributed to this new center by donating vehicles and communication equipments necessary in performing its duties.
At the same time, the Police Department submitted a proposal to establish a Tourist Police Division as a permanent agency in being responsible for facilitating and providing its duties. There fore, the government changed the status of the Tourist Police Division level under Headquarter of Central Investigative Police according to the royal decree in reorganization of Police Department, Ministry of Interior (number 17th) 1991. After the status change, the Tourist Police Division faced a serious problem of lacking in man power to perform its duties properly. At the same time the Police Department was elevated to Royal Thai Police according to the royal decree on 17 October 2001. Later on, according to the approval of the sub-committee of police force during the 9th /2001 meeting on 14th October 2003, and the approval of committee of the police force during the 15th / 2006 meeting on 24th October 2003, and the approval of the cabinet members on 25th November 2003 resulted in the reorganization of the Tourist Police Division by sub-dividing it into 3 Sub-Division according to the royal decree in 1966 while the regulations of the Police Department (number 10th) 1993 was nullified. The new organization of the Tourist Police was put into effect on 18th December 2003. In 2005, there was a royal decree concerning the reorganization of the Royal Thai Police by dividing the office into division and agencies which has been put into effect since.
