ประวัติ
วัดใหญ่ชัยมงคลเป็นวัดที่เก่าแก่วัดหนึ่งสร้างขึ้นในสมัยอยุธยาตอนต้น
คือในรัชสมัยของสมเด็จพระรามาธิปดีที่1หรืออีกพระนามหนึ่งคือสมเด็จพระเจ้าอู่ทอง
พระมหากษัตริย์ผู้สถาปนากรุงศรีอยุธยาตามตำนานกล่าวว่าเมื่อพ.ศ.1900
สมเด็จพระเจ้าอู่ทองได้ทรงพระกรุณาโปรดเกล้าฯให้ขุดศพเจ้าแก้วซึ่งทิวงคตด้วยอหิวาตกโรค
ขึ้นมาเผา ที่ปลงศพนั้นโปรดให้สถาปนาเป็นพระอาราม นามว่า วัดป่าแก้ว
