งานทิ้งกระจาด เป็นพิธีกรรมของพุทธศาสนาฝ่ายมหายาน มีแนวคิดคล้ายพิธีกงเต๊ก เป็นการเจริญเมตตาธรรมแก่ดวงวิญญาณที่ล่วงลับไปแล้ว โดยนำเอาสิ่งของผู้ตาย และของใช้อื่นๆ มาแจกจ่ายแก่ผู้ยากจน ตามตำนานพระสูตรกล่าวว่า
