เป็นพระพุทธรูปหล่อองค์ใหญ่ สร้างด้วยโลหะหนัก 9 โกฎิตำลึง ("ตื้อ"เป็นคำในภาษาไทยเหนือ แปลว่า หนักพันชั่ง) พระญาเมืองแก้ว กษัตริย์องค์ที่ 13 แห่ง ราชวงศ์เม็งราย โปรดเกล้าฯ ให้สร้างขึ้นเมื่อปี พ.ศ.2047 "พระเจ้าเก้าตื้อ" เป็นพระพุทธรูปแบบเชียงแสน ฝีมือช่างล้านนาและสุโขทัย หน้าตักกว้าง 8 ศอก หรือ 3 เมตร สูง 4.07 เมตร เพื่อเป็นพระองค์ประธานใน วัดพระสิงห์ แต่เนื่องมีน้ำหนักมากไม่สามารถเคลื่อนย้ายได้ จึงได้ถวายเรือนหลวงของพระองค์เป็นพระวิหาร พระราชทานชื่อว่า "วัดเก้าตื้อ" แทน ซึ่งต่อมาภายหลังได้รับการบูรณปฏิสังขรณ์ในสมัย ครูบาเจ้าศรีวิชัย นักบุญแห่งล้านนา ในปี พ.ศ.2475 กรมศิลปากรได้ขึ้นทะเบียนเป็นโบราณสถานแห่งชาติ ในราชกิจจานุเบกษา ฯ เล่มที่ 52 ตอนที่ 75 ลงวันที่ 8 มีนาคม 2478
