สาวใช้ทั้งสองจึงช่วยกันฆ่าไก่เสีย ครั้นเมื่อไม่มีไก่คอยขันตอนรุ่งสางอีกเเล้ว เเม่เฒ่าจึงมักคอยตื่นขึ้น กลางดึกเสมอๆ เพราะกลัวว่าจะนอนตื่นสาย

สองสาวใช้จึงต้องลุกมาทำงานตั้งเเต่กลางดึก ไม่ได้นอนสบายๆอย่างที่หวังไว้
