เมื่อกล่าวถึงคำว่าอาเซียน หลายคนคงรับทราบแล้วว่าในปีพุทธศักราช 2558 ประเทศไทยและ อีก 9 ประเทศในภูมิภาคเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ได้รวมกันเพื่อความเป็นหนึ่งและมั่นคงทางภูมิภาค กล่าวคืออาเซียน หมายถึง สมาคมประชาชาติแห่งเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ (Association of South East AsianNations หรือ ASEAN) โดยมีการจัดตั้งครั้งแรกเพื่อจุดประสงค์ในการ ส่งเสริมและร่วมมือในเรื่องสันติภาพ ความมั่นคงเศรษฐกิจ องค์ความรู้ สังคมวัฒนธรรม บนพื้นฐานความเท่าเทียมกันและผลประโยชน์ร่วมกันของประเทศสมาชิก

อาเซียนมีความสำคัญกับประเทศไทยในหลายๆด้าน เช่นด้านเศรษฐกิจ ด้านการคมนาคม ด้านการศึกษา และอีกหลายด้านที่เกี่ยวกับการพัฒนาทั้งบุคลากรรวมไปจนถึงการเชื่อมสัมพันธไมตรี กับเพื่อนบ้าน ซึ่งคนที่จะเป็นตัวกำหนดความก้าวหน้าเหล่านี้คือเยาวชนทุกคน ที่ต้องเตรียมตัว เข้าสู่ประชาคมอาเซียน ความรู้เกี่ยวกับอาเซียน ภาษาสากล วัฒนธรรม เยาวชนจึงควรเตรียมความพร้อม ในทุกๆด้าน และในฐานะที่ประเทศไทยเป็นคณะผู้ริเริ่มประชาคมอาเซียนถ้าเยาวชนไม่ใส่ใจ ไม่ใฝ่รู้ความเป็นมา ก็จะถูกตำหนิได้ว่า บุคลากรในประเทศไม่มีคุณภาพ ไม่เหมาะสมที่จะเข้าร่วมอาเซียน
ฉะนั้นในฐานะที่เราเป็นหนึ่งในเยาวชนของอาเซียน ซึ่งเป็นแรงขับเคลื่อนส่วนสำคัญในอนาคตข้างหน้า ที่จะเข้ามาพัฒนาประเทศ จึงมีความจำเป็นยิ่งที่จะต้องมีการเตรียมความพร้อมเข้าสู่ประชาคมอาเซียนด้วยการเริ่มต้นหมั่นศึกษาหาความรู้ โดยเฉพาะการฝึกฝนภาษาอังกฤษ ที่จะเป็นภาษาซึ่งใช้ ในการสื่อสารกับสมาชิกในอาเซียนรวมทั้งเรียนรู้ภาษาของประเทศเพื่อนบ้าน อนึ่งเพราะในปีพ.ศ. 2559 นี้เองจะเป็นจุดเริ่มต้นของการเคลื่อนย้ายแรงงานในกลุ่มอาเซียนอย่างเสรี ซึ่งหากเยาวชนและแรงงานไทยของเรายังไม่มีความพร้อมหรือมีความสามารถไม่พอกับการแข่งขันก็อาจจะพลาดจากตำแหน่งงานที่ดีได้ โดย 8 อาชีพที่สามารถย้ายแรงงานฝีมืออย่างเสรีในประชาคมอาเซียนได้แก่ แพทย์ ทันตแพทย์ พยาบาล นักสำรวจ วิศวกรรม บัญชี สถาปัตยกรรม การบริการหรือการท่องเที่ยว ซึ่งเป็นอาชีพอิสระที่ได้มาตรฐานและได้รับการรับรองให้สามารถเคลื่อนย้ายไปหางานในประเทศแถบเอเชียได้ทันที ไม่มีการปิดกั้น ทั้งนี้สิ่งที่ควรคำนึงถึงก็คือ เรื่องของสมรรถนะ ความรู้ความสามารถในการบริหารการทำงานกับเพื่อนร่วมงาน อย่างมีประสิทธิภาพ มีความสามารถในการปรับตัว มีความคล่องแคล่วว่องไวในการทำงานด้วย ซึ่งจะได้กล่าวถึงอย่างละเอียดในลำดับต่อไปสำหรับบทความชิ้นนี้
