When I want to find specific information or answers to specific questions, “scanning” is the best strategy to use to come up with the answers as quickly as possible without having to go through every detail in the text. What I need to do is to look for the key word, like number of people, number of cases or countries word; for example, for questions 1 and 2 of Text 2, I should scan for number of people and the period of year. In order to answer questions 3-5, I should scan for number of pancreatic cancer cases, name of countries and Dr. Susan Mayne. On the other hand, if I want to grasp the key essence of the text or to understand the main idea, “skimming” is my best choice; I may need to use both skimming and scanning. While-reading:
