เดิมมีชื่อว่า อุทยานแห่งชาติเขาสลอบ ประกาศเป็นเขตอุทยานฯ เมื่อวันที่ 19 มิถุนายน 2518 มีเนื้อที่ 343,735 ต่อมาเปลี่ยนชื่อเป็นอุทยานแห่งชาติเอราวัณเนื่องจากชั้นสูงสุดของน้ำตกเป็นธรรมชาติที่มีลักษณะคล้ายหัวช้างเอราวัณ มีแหล่งท่องเที่ยวที่น่าสนใจ คือ
น้ำตกเอราวัณ อยู่ห่างจากตัวเมือง 65 กิโลเมตร เป็นน้ำตกที่ใหญ่และสวยงาม บนฝั่งแม่น้ำแควใหญ่ ต้นน้ำเกิดจากลำห้วยม่องไล่ไหลผ่านลงจากยอดเขาและผาสูง 2,100 เมตร น้ำตกเอราวัณมีความยาว 1,500 เมตร แบ่งเป็น 7 ชั้น แต่ละชั้นมีลักษณะเป็นอ่างสามารถเล่นน้ำได้ และยังมีเส้นทางศึกษาธรรมชาติเอราวัณ ระยะทาง 1,060 เมตร ใช้เวลาประมาณ 30 นาที ผ่านป่าดิบเขา จุดชมวิวและป่าผลัดใบที่สวยงาม ท่านจะได้รับความเพลิดเพลินในการชื่นชมธรรมชาติและได้ความรู้จากป้ายสื่อความหมาย
