การศึกษาครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาศักยภาพการพัฒนาการท่องเที่ยวเชิงพุทธศาสนาในจังหวัดนครปฐม โดยใช้เทคนิคการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ และการวิจัยเชิงปริมาณ การเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลเชิงคุณภาพได้จากการสนทนากลุ่ม การสัมภาษณ์ และการสังเกต ร่วมกับการใช้กระบวนการวางแผนแบบมีส่วนร่วม (AIC for Participatory Planning) พร้อมทั้งลงพื้นที่เพื่อทำการศึกษาชุมชน และตรวจสอบทรัพยากรการท่องเที่ยวในวัด จำนวน 8 แห่ง โดยใช้เครื่องมือเชิงคุณภาพ คือ แบบรายการศึกษาชุมชน (Community Study Checklist) และแบบตรวจสอบทรัพยากรทางการท่องเที่ยว (Tourism Resources Audit) ส่วนการเก็บรวบรวมข้อมูลเชิงปริมาณใช้แบบสอบถามความคิดเห็นของผู้มีส่วนเกี่ยวข้องการท่องเที่ยว ทั้งภาครัฐ ภาคเอกชน ประชาชนในท้องถิ่น และนักท่องเที่ยวชาวไทย การเลือกตัวอย่างใช้วิธีการสุ่มตัวอย่างแบบตามสะดวก (Convenience Sampling) โดยใช้กลุ่มตัวอย่างที่สามารถเป็นตัวแทนแต่ละภาคส่วน ภาคส่วนละ 100 คน จำนวนทั้งสิ้น 400 คน
