ความเป็นมาของการอ้างกรรมสิทธิ์
ปัจจุบันประเทศที่อ้างกรรมสิทธิ์เหนือหมู่เกาะสแปรตลีย์ ประกอบด้วย สาธารณรัฐประชาชนจีน(สปจ.) ใต้หวัน ฟิลิปปินส์ เวียดนาม มาเลเซีย และ บรูไน โดยแต่ละประเทศอ้างเหตุผลในการครอบครองแตกต่างกัน ดังนี้
