วันที่ 17 กุมภาพันธ์ 2557 รองศาสตราจารย์ จอน ผู้อำนวยการสถาบันทดสอบทางการศึกษาแห่งชาติ (สทศ.) กล่าวถึงการจัดสอบรอบพิเศษในการการทดสอบทางการศึกษาระดับชาติขั้นพื้นฐาน O-NET ปีการศึกษา 2556 สำหรับนักเรียนชั้นมัธยมศึกษาปีที่ 6 หรือเทียบเท่า ที่มีเหตุสุดวิสัยไม่สามารถมาเข้าสอบได้ในวันที่ 15-16 กุมภาพันธ์ 2557 ที่ผ่านมา โดยนักเรียนที่สามารถสมัครสอบรอบพิเศษได้ต้องเป็นนักเรียนที่มีเหตุสุดวิสัยจริง คือ 1. เจ็บป่วย หรือประสบอุบัติเหตุ และ 2. ประสบภัยธรรมชาติ โรคระบาด จนไม่สามารถเข้าสอบตามเวลาที่กำหนดได้
ทั้งนี้ นักเรียนต้องนำหลักฐานการรับรองจากสถานศึกษา รวมถึงใบรับรองแพทย์มาแสดงด้วย ตลอดจนเอกสารการยื่นขอคำร้องเข้าสอบในรอบพิเศษ ซึ่งมีกำหนดรับสมัครตั้งแต่วันที่ 17-24 กุมภาพันธ์ 2557 โดยสมัครด้วยตนเองที่ สทศ. หรือทางไปรษณียโดยวิธี EMS เท่านั้น พร้อมกับชำระค่าสมัครสอบวิชาละ 100 บาท สทศ.จะประกาศรายชื่อผู้มีสิทธิ์สอบชั้นม.6 วันที่ 28 กุมภาพันธ์ 2557 สอบวันที่ 5-6 มีนาคม 2557 และประกาศผลสอบวันที่ 31 มีนาคม 2557
