มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อเสริมสร้างและธำรงไว้ซึ่งสันติภาพและความมั่นคงของภูมิภาค เพื่อให้ประเทศในภูมิภาคอยู่ร่วมกันอย่างสันติสุข และสามารถแก้ไขปัญหาและความขัดแย้ง โดยสันติวิธี อาเซียนจึงได้จัดทำแผนงานการจัดตั้งประชาคมการเมืองและความมั่นคงอาเซียน โดยเน้นใน 3 ประการ
