การดำเนินการจัดตั้งเขตการค้าเสรีอาเซียนได้มีความก้าวหน้าไปมาก โดยสถานะ ณ วันที่ 1 มกราคม 2548 คือ
(1) รายการสินค้าในบัญชี IL ซึ่งประเทศสมาชิกทั้ง 10 ประเทศ ได้นำมาลดภาษีในปี 2547 มีจำนวนรวมทั้งสิ้น 86,359 รายการ
(2) 98.98% ของสินค้าของประเทศสมาชิกเดิม 6 ประเทศ และ 81.35% ของประเทศสมาชิกใหม่ มีอัตราภาษีระหว่าง 0-5 %
(3) อัตราภาษีเฉลี่ยสำหรับสินค้าใน CEPTสำหรับสมาชิกเดิม 6 ประเทศ เท่ากับ 2.0% (จาก 12.76% ในปี ค.ศ. 1993 ซึ่งเป็นปีที่เริ่มลดภาษี) และ
