บริการข้อมูลอุตุนิยมวิทยาการบิน เป็นการบริการให้แก่ บริษัทวิทยุการบินแห่งประเทศไทย เพื่อใช้ในการควบคุมการจราจรทางอากาศ ให้เครื่องบินสามารถร่อนขึ้นและลงจอดได้อย่างปลอดภัย ตามระเบียบข้อบังคับและมาตรฐานสากลของ ICAO ต้องมีข้อมูลข่าวสารอุตุนิยมวิทยาการบินต่างๆ เช่น ข่าวการตรวจอากาศการบินแบบประจำและแบบพิเศษ (METAR & SPECI) ข่าวพยากรณ์อากาศสนามบิน (TAF) ข่าวพยากรณ์แนวโน้ม (TREND Forecast) ข่าวพยากรณ์เพื่อการบินขึ้น (Take – Off Condition) และข่าวคำเตือนลักษณะอากาศร้ายที่จะเป็นอันตรายต่อการบิน (SIGMET Information & Aerodrome Warning) รวมทั้งให้คำแนะนำที่เป็นประโยชน์ต่อการตัดสินใจของนักบิน พร้อมทั้งให้ความร่วมมือในการค้นหาและช่วยเหลืออากาศยานที่ประสบอุบัติเหตุ ซึ่งการให้บริการข้อมูลข่าวสารอุตุนิยมวิทยาการบินนั้น สำนักอุตุนิยมวิทยาขนส่ง ได้ติดตั้งระบบตรวจอากาศอัตโนมัติและตรวจอากาศผิวพื่น (Automatic Weather Observation System : AWOS) ระบบ Low Level Wind Shear Alert System : LLWAS ระบบหาพิกัดตำแหน่งฟ้าแลบ (Lightning Detection System : LDS) ระบบเรดาร์ตรวจอากาศแบบดอปเปลอร์ (Doppler Weather Radar) ระบบรับข้อมูลอุตุนิยมวิทยาดาวเทียม (MTSAT NOAA) และระบบการรับส่งข่าวอากาศการบินอัตโนมัติ (Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunication Network :AFTN and Telecom System) เพื่อทำหน้่าที่ตรวจวัดข้อมูลอุตุนิยมวิทยาบริเวณสนามบิน พยากรณ์อากาศสนามบิน ออกคำเตือนลักษณะอากาศร้าย ที่จะเป็นอันตรายต่อการบินขึ้นหรือลงจอดของเครื่องบิน และมีการตรวจลักษณะอากาศบริเวณสนามบินตลอดเวลา 24 ชั่วโมง
