วิธีการสอนแบบนี้ยึดแนวคิดที่ว่าภาษา เป็นระบบที่เป็นไปตามกฎเกณฑ์ ความเข้าใจ และการแสดงออก ทางภาษาขึ้นอยู่กับความเข้าใจ กฎเกณฑ์ เมื่อผู้เรียนมีความเข้าใจรูปแบบของภาษาและความหมายแล้ว ก็จะสามารถใช้ภาษาได้
ลักษณะเด่น

4.1 ครูมุ่งฝึกทักษะทุกด้านตั้งแต่เริ่มสอน โดยไม่จำเป็นต้องฝึกฟังและพูดให้ดีก่อน แล้วจึงอ่านและเขียน ตามวิธีสอนแบบฟัง-พูด (Audio – Lingual Method)
4.2 ครูสอนเนื้อหาแตกต่างกัน ขึ้นอยู่กับความต้องการที่แตกต่างของนักเรียน ที่มีความสามารถ ในทักษะฟังพูดอ่านเขียนที่แตกต่างกัน
