ประวัติ

ประตูท่าแพซึ่งตั้งอยู่ในปัจจุบันนี้ เทศบาลนครเชียงใหม่และกรมศิลปากรได้ร่วมกันสร้างขึ้นมาใหม่ เมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2528 โดยอาศัยหลักฐานทางประวัติศาสตร์และโบราณคดี ประกอบกับภาพถ่ายประตูเมืองเชียงใหม่ประตูหนึ่ง ซึ่งถ่ายเมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2422

แต่เดิมประตูท่าแพที่ถูกเรียกกันในปัจจุบันนั้นมีนามว่า "ประตูเชียงเรือก" เพราะอยู่ใกล้หมู่บ้านเชียงเรือก สร้างขึ้นครั้งแรกในรัชสมัยพญามังราย มหาราช เมื่อแรกตั้งเมืองเชียงใหม่ เมื่อปีพ.ศ. 1839
