วัดธาตุมหาชัย บ้านมหาชัย ตำบลมหาชัย อำเภอปลาปาก จังหวัดนครพนม

ความเป็นมา

พระธาตุมหาชัยองค์เดิม สร้างเสร็จเมื่อ พ.ศ. 2518 โดยดำริของหลวงปู่ หลังจาก
ที่หลวงปู่ได้นำพาญาติโยมมาสร้างบ้านมหาชัย และสร้างวัดโฆษการาม ต่อมาจึงดำริที่จะสร้างพระธาตุขึ้น
เพื่อเป็นเครื่องยึดเหนี่ยวทางจิตใจของชาวพุทธ โดยได้รับความร่วมมือจากญาติโยม
ชาวตำบลมหาชัยทุกหมู่บ้านได้นำเอาหินลูกรัง และดินมากองรวมกันให้เป็นเนินสูงเพื่อจะให้เป็นฐานพระธาตุ
จนได้เนินสูงพอสมควร ต่อมาได้มีหน่วยงานของทางราชการมาช่วย เช่น หน่วยงานเร่งรัดพัฒนาชนบท (ร.พ.ช.) ได้นำรถแทรกเตอร์มา
ช่วยทำฐานพระธาตุเพียงหยาบๆ จนได้ฐานพระธาตุกว้าง 17 เมตร ยาว 23 เมตร สูง 4.50 เมตร การสร้างพระธาตุหลวงปู่
ได้ดำเนินการสร้างแบบค่อยเป็นค่อยไป อาศัยกำลังจากญาติโยมและพระภิกษุสามเณรในวัด

พ.ศ. 2512 ศิษย์หลวงปูคนหนึ่งคือพระมหาเฉวต วชิรญาโณ จำพรรษาอยู่ที่นครเวียงจันทน์

มาเป็นประธานในพิธีสงฆ์ ทางฝ่ายบ้านเมืองได้เชิญ พลตรี ยง ณ นคร ผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดนครพนม เป็นประธาน แต่ท่านผู้ว่าฯ
ติดราชการจึงให้พันตรี อรุณ สังฆบรรณ ปลัดอำเภอ ผู้เป็นหัวหน้ากิ่งอำเภอปลาปาก มาทำหน้าที่เป็นประธานแทน
เมื่อเสร็จจากพิธิวางศิลาฤกษ์แล้ว ได้ลงมือก่อสร้างองค์พระธาตุโดยพระมหาเฉวต วชิรญาโณ เป็นช่าง และนายทองดี ศรีสุวงค์
เป็นผู้ช่วย ได้ก่อสร้างขึ้นมาจนเป็นพระธาตุรูป 8 เหลี่ยม สูงประมาณ 7 เมตร
ในการก่อสร้างองค์พระธาตุได้อาศัยกำลังทรัพย์จากญาติโยมชาวตำบลมหาชัย และตำบลใกล้เคียงได้บริจาคในรูปปัจจัยบ้าง
วัสดุก่อสร้างบ้าง เช่น หิน ซึ่งถากเป็นแผ่นๆ กว้าง 15 เซนติเมตร ยาว 30 เซนติเมตร หนา 10 เซนติเมตร

พ.ศ. 2515 นายพิศาล มูลศาสตร์สาทร รองผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดนครพนมสมัยนั้น

จึงเกิดความเลื่อมใสศรัทธาได้เข้ามากราบนมัสการ หลวงปู่และ ได้ปวารณาตัวขอเป็นผู้อุปถัมภ์
ต่อมาท่านได้ให้นายช่างหน่วยเร่งรัดพัฒนาชนบทเขียนแบบแปลนพระธาตุขึ้นนำเสนอหลวงปู่ และได้ดำเนินการก่อสร้างองค์พระ
ธาตุตามแบบแปลนจนเป็นผลสำเร็จสวยงาม

หลังจากนั้นท่านได้นำความกราบบังคมทูลพระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัว ต่อมาเมื่อวันที่ 25 พฤษภาคม พ.ศ. 2518
ซึ่งเป็นวันวิสาขบูชา พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัว พร้อมด้วยสมเด็จ พระนางเจ้าฯพระบรมราชินีนาถ
ได้เสด็จพระราชดำเนินทรงนำพระบรมสารีริกธาตุ มาบรรจุไว้ที่องค์พระธาตุมหาชัย และทรงเวียนเทียนรอบ องค์พระธาตุด้วยพระองค์เอง
พร้อมด้วย ข้าราชบริพาร และพสกนิกรฯ
