หมายถึง แนวทางในการทำการเกษตร เพื่อให้ได้ผลผลิตที่มีคุณภาพดีตรงตามมาตรฐานที่กำหนด ได้ผลผลิตสูงคุ้มค่าการลงทุนและกระบวนการผลิตจะต้องปลอดภัยต่อเกษตรกรและผู้บริโภค มีการใช้ทรัพยากรที่เกิดประโยชน์สูงสุด เกิดความยั่งยืนทางการเกษตรและไม่ทำให้เกิดมลพิษต่อสิ่งแวดล้อม โดยหลักการนี้ได้รับการกำหนดโดยองค์การอาหารและเกษตรแห่งสหประชาชาติ (FAO)
