เศรษฐกิจพอเพียง (Sufficiency Economy) เป็นปรัชญาชี้ถึงแนวการดำรงอยู่และปฏิบัติตนของประชาชนในทุกระดับตั้งแต่ระดับครอบครัว ระดับชุมชน จนถึงระดับรัฐ ทั้งในการพัฒนาและบริหารประเทศ ปรัชญาเศรษฐกิจพอเพียง มีหลักพิจารณา ๕ ส่วน๑. กรอบแนวคิด ที่ชี้แนวทางการดำรงอยู่และปฏิบัติตนในทางที่ควร โดยมีพื้นฐานมาจากวิถีชีวิตดั้งเดิมของสังคมไทย๒. คุณลักษณะ เศรษฐกิจพอเพียงสามารถประยุกต์ใช้กับการปฏิบัติตนได้ทุกระดับ โดยเน้นทางสายกลาง และการพัฒนาอย่างเป็นขั้นตอน๓. คำนิยาม ความพอเพียง (Sufficiency) จะต้องประกอบด้วย ๓ คุณลักษณะ ดังนี้

๑) ความพอประมาณ หมายถึง ความพอดี ไม่มากเกินไป ไม่น้อยเกินไป

๒) ความมีเหตุผล หมายถึง การตัดสินใจ อย่างมีเหตุผล

๓) การมีภูมิคุ้มกันในตัว หมายถึง การเตรียมตัวให้พร้อมรับผลกระทบและการเปลี่ยนแปลง

๔) เงื่อนไข ๒ เงื่อนไข คือ เงื่อนไขความรู้ และเงื่อนไขคุณธรรม (แนวคิด ๓ ห่วง ๒ เงื่อนไข) ๑) เงื่อนไขความรู้ คือ ความรู้เกี่ยวกับวิชาการ เพื่อนำมาประกอบการวางแผน ๒) เงื่อนไขคุณธรรม เพื่อเสริมสร้างให้มีความตระหนักในคุณธรรม มีความซื่อสัตย์

๕) แนวทางปฏิบัติ ผลที่คาดว่าจะได้รับ เพื่อการพัฒนาที่สมดุล ทั้งด้านเศรษฐกิจ สังคม สิ่งแวดล้อม และความรู้เทคโนโลยีกระบวนการสร้างความรู้ (Knowledge) คุณธรรม จริยธรรมและค่านิยมที่พึงประสงค์ผ่านกิจกรรมการเรียนรู้ตามแนวปรัชญาเศรษฐกิจพอเพียง ในเอกสารประกอบการอบรมเรื่องการพัฒนาคุณธรรมจริยธรรมตามแนวเศรษฐกิจพอเพียงสถาบันพัฒนาคุณภาพวิชาการ (พว) ได้ให้ข้อแนะนำในการจัดการเรียนรู้ ดังนี้

ด้านเศรษฐกิจ ๑. รู้จักควบคุมใช้จ่ายของตนเอง ใช้จ่ายอย่างมีเหตุผล, ใช้จ่ายพอประมาณ ใช้จ่ายอย่างประหยัด ใช้จ่ายเท่าที่จำเป็น ฯลฯ ๒.รู้จักออมเงิน เรียนรู้ระบบการฝากเงิน เรียนรู้ระบบออมเงิน เรียนรู้ระบบสหกรณ์ ๓. รู้จักสร้างรายได้หรืออาชีพ สร้างรายได้หรืออาชีพสอดคล้องกับความต้องการ สอดคล้องกับสังคม ภูมิปัญญาท้องถิ่น ทรัพยากรท้องถิ่น ฯลฯด้านสังคม รู้จักช่วยเหลือสังคมหรือชุมชน ปลุกจิตสำนึกสาธารณะ ปลูกฝังความสามัคคี ความเสียสละ เผยแพร่องค์ความรู้เศรษฐกิจพอเพียง ฯลฯ

แนวการจัดการเรียนรู้เรื่องเศรษฐกิจพอเพียงตามกลุ่มสาระการเรียนรู้ทั้ง 8 กลุ่มสาระ
