In order to detect a defect and its nature, we needed to classify defects and their thermal responses. Owing to this, some sandwich structure samples were made and the most common defects and inclusions were inserted inside.<br>In Fig. 2 one of the samples is represented. Sandwich structure was realized by using sheets of Glass Reinforced Plastics GRP), with random glass ®bers and polyester resin, 2.6 mm thick, separated by a layer of PolyVinylCloride PVC) foam, 26 mm thick. Some slots 1 mm) were cut into the all surface which looks like a chessboard) and into the thickness of the PVC sheet in order to simulate a scored-foam. Scored-foam is generally used to shape curves or sharp curvatures that a component design presents, instead of using foam sheets which are rigid and dif®cult to bend. An adhesive between GRP laminates and foam layer glue was used, made with a polyester resin with 2.50% in weight of the accelerator and catalyst. To obtain good adhesion, samples were left in a oven for an hour, at the temperature of 60VC.
