การวิจัยในครั้งนี้มีจุดประสงค์เพื่อ 1.)เพื่อศึกษาวิเคราะห์กลวิธีการแปลชื่อจังหวัดในประเทศไทยเป็นภาษาจีน ว่าจังหวัดแต่ละจังหวัดได้มาจากกลวิธีการแปลแบใด 2.)เพื่อนำผลการวิเคราะห์และวิจัยในครั้งนี้ไปประยุกต์และใช้ในทางการเรียนการสอนสาขาวิชาภาษาจีนได้ สำหรับขอบเขตของการศึกษาวิจัยในครั้งนี้ก็คือชื่อจังหวัดทั้ง 77 จังหวัดของประเทศไทย ซึ่งได้นำข้อมูลส่วนนี้มาทั้งชื่อที่เป็นภาษาไทยและภาษาจีนข้อมูลเหล่านี้ได้รวบรวมมาจากหลายแห่งด้วยกันอย่างเช่น หนังสือที่เกี่ยวกับการแปล ไทย-จีน,วิทยานิพนที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการแปล,และอินเตอร์เน็ตจากนั้นก็นำเอาข้อมูลที่ได้มาคัดเลือกก่อนจะนำข้อมูลเหล่านั้นไปทำการวิเคราะห์และสรุปผลต่อไป
