2. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
Aluminium phosphide is a fumigant used for the control of insect infecting stored commodities.
When exposed to air, aluminium phosphide reacts to generate phosphine gas (PH3). It also quickly releases ammonia (NH3), a
pungent warning gas, and carbon dioxide.
Phosphine gas is extremely toxic to humans. It can kill if inhaled or swallowed. Dust or vapour must never been inhaled
Phosphine gas can explode when its concentration in air is above 1.79 % (Lower Explosion Limit = 1.79 – 1.89 v%)
Phosphine is corrosive to copper based materials. Electrical and electronic equipment must not get in contact with the gas.
Aluminium phosphide is formulated in tablets, pellets or powder
