จากผลการสำรวจพบว่าปริมาตรของถังขยะในมหาวิทยาลัยแม่ฟ้าหลวง มีความเพียงพอต่อปริมาณของขยะที่เกิดขึ้นในแต่วัน แต่ปริมาตรถังขยะมีมากเกินไป และจุดวางของถังขยะไม่เหมาะสมต่ออัตราการเกิดขยะ และในบางเวลาปริมาณของขยะมีการล้นออกจากถัง ซึ่งเป็นผลมาจากการมีกิจกรรม งานเลี้ยง หรือเทศกาล ทางลุ่มจึงได้คิดโครงการเพื่อเป็นการปรับเปลี่ยนจุดวาง และปริมาตรของถังขยะให้มีความเหมาะสมต่ออัตราการเกิดขยะ อีกทั้งยังประดิษฐ์ถังขยะจากกล่องเครื่องดื่มยูเอชทีจากโรงงานดอยคำ เพื่อรองรับขยะที่สามารถสร้างรายได้ให้กับทางมหาวิทยาลัยได้
