ในปี พ.ศ.2536 กรมป่าไม้ กระทรวงเกษ

 ในปี พ.ศ.2536 กรมป่าไม้ กระทรวงเกษตรและสหกรณ์ในสมัยนั้น (ปัจจุบัน กรมป่าไม้ อยู่ในสังกัดกระทรวงทรัพยากรธรรมชาติและสิ่งแวดล้อม) ได้ประกาศบริเวณพื้นที่ป่าเป็นเขตพุทธอุทยาน ให้ดำเนินโครงการส่งเสริมพระพุทธศาสนา เพื่ออนุรักษ์ป่าไม้และพัฒนาสิ่งแวดล้อม ตามความคิดริเริ่มของพลเอกเชษฐา ฐานะจาโร เมื่อครั้งดำรงตำแหน่ง ผบ.กกล.สุรนารี โดยมี เจ้าพระคุณสมเด็จพระสังฆราช ทรงรับเป็นองค์อุปถัมภ์ตั้งแต่นั้นเป็นต้นมา
เนื่องในวโรกาสพระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวภูมิพลอดุลยเดช ทรงครองสิริราชสมบัติครบ 50 ปี ในปี พ.ศ.2539 คณะกรรมการวัดได้มีมติในการจัดสร้างพระอุโบสถเพื่อเป็นอนุสรณ์เนื่องในมหามงคลวโรกาสครั้งนั้น ลักษณะพระอุโบสถเป็นทรงไทยประยุกต์ ขนาดกว้าง 30 เมตร ยาว 60 เมตร ผลจากพลังศรัทธาสามัคคี และความมานะพยายามของพระครูภาวนาวิทยาคม (เยื้อน ขนฺติพโล) เจ้าอาวาส ตลอดจนคณะสงฆ์ ศิษยานุศิษย์ และ พุทธศาสนิกชนทั่วไป ที่ได้ร่วมเสียสละกำลังกาย และทุนทรัพย์ อุปถัมภ์การก่อสร้างจนแล้วเสร็จ โดยไม่ใช้งบทางราชการแต่อย่างใด และได้รับพระมหากรุณาธิคุณ พระราชทานวิสุงคามสีมา เมื่อ พ.ศ.2541 เพื่อให้เป็นการสมบูรณ์ตามแบบพระธรรมวินัย และทางวัดได้ทำพิธีผูกพัทธสีมาปิดทองฝังลูกนิมิต ในวันที่ 21 สิงหาคม พ.ศ. 2547 โดยมี พลเอกเชษฐา ฐานะจาโร รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงกลาโหมในขณะนั้นมาเป็นประธานในพิธี
