เป้าหมายการรวมตัวเป็นประชาคมอาเซียน

1. การเป็นประชาคมด้านการเมืองและความมั่นคง มีวัตถุประสงค์ที่จะทำให้ประเทศในภูมิภาค

2. การเป็นประชาคมด้านเศรษฐกิจ เพื่อให้เกิดความร่วมมือทางด้านการค้า การลงทุน อันจะนำไปสู่ความมั่งคั่ง และมั่นคงทางด้านเศรษฐกิจในภูมิภาค
3. การเป็นประชาคมด้านสังคมและวัฒนธรรม มีจุดมุ่งหมายที่จะทำให้ภูมิภาคเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ อยู่ร่วมกันในสังคมที่เอื้ออาทร ประชากรมีสภาพความเป็นอยู่ที่ดี ได้รับการพัฒนาในทุกด้าน และมีความมั่นคงทางสังคม (social security) มีวิสัยทัศน์เดียวกัน มีอัตลักษณ์เดียวกัน มีการช่วยเหลือเกื้อกูลกัน และความรู้สึกถึงความเป็นประชาคมเดียวกัน (One Vision, One Identity, One Community)
