จากปัญหา งานวิจัย และบทความเชิงวิชาการที่อ้างถึงนั้น ทาให้ผู้วิจัยเล็งเห็นความสาคัญของปัญหาการพูดและฟังภาษาอังกฤษของคนไทย โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งปัญหาการออกเสียงและการรับรู้เสียงภาษาอังกฤษของนักศึกษาชาวไทย ดังนั้น ผู้วิจัยจึงได้เริ่มหาข้อมูลต่างๆ เพื่อศึกษาความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างการออกเสียงและการรับรู้เสียงพยัญชนะภาษาอังกฤษกลุ่มที่มีการกักลม (Plosives/Affricates)
