ประเพณีบุญสารทเดือนสิบ งานบุญยิ่งใหญ่ของชาวนครศรีธรรมราช
จึงขอเชิญชวนชาวนครศรีธรรมราชและนักท่องเที่ยว เที่ยวชมงานประเพณีเทศกาลบุญสารทเดือนสิบ ฉลองพระบรมธาตุสู่มรดกโลก และงานกาชาด ประจำปี 2556 รวม 10 วัน 10 คืน ระหว่างวันที่ 28 กันยายน – 7 ตุลาคม 2556.
ประเพณีบุญสารทเดือนสิบ มีการสืบทอดกันมายาวนานหลายร้อยปี ซึ่งได้รับอิทธิพลด้านความเชื่อที่มาจากศาสนาพราหมณ์โดยมีการผสมผสานกับความเชื่อทางพระพุทธศาสนา ที่เข้ามาในภายหลัง โดยมีจุดมุ่งหมายสำคัญเพื่อเป็นการอุทิศส่วนกุศลให้แก่ดวงวิญญาณของบรรพชนและญาติ ที่ล่วงลับ ซึ่งได้รับการปล่อยตัวมาจากนรกเนื่องจากผลกรรมที่ตนได้เคยทำไว้ตอนที่ยังมีชีวิตอยู่ โดยจะเริ่มปล่อยตัวจากนรกในทุกวันแรม 1 ค่ำเดือน 10 เพื่อมายังโลกมนุษย์ในการมาขอรับส่วนบุญจากลูกหลานญาติพี่น้อง ที่ได้เตรียมการอุทิศไว้ให้เป็นการแสดงความกตัญญูกตเวทีต่อผู้ล่วงลับ หรือที่เรียกกันว่า “วันรับตายาย” หรือเป็นวันบุญแรก หลังจากนั้นก็จะกลับไปยังนรก ในวันแรม 15 ค่ำ เดือน 10 “วันส่งตายาย”หรือเป็นวันบุญหลังหรือบุญใหญ่ ซึ่งวันนี้มีการยกหฺมฺรับพร้อมภัตตาหาร(ปิ่นโต)ไปวัด เมื่อหฺมฺรับถึงวัดแล้ว ก็จะร่วมกันตักบาตร ถวายภัตตาหารแก่พระสงฆ์ เสร็จแล้วจะร่วมกัน “ตั้งเปรต” เพื่อแผ่ส่วนบุญส่วนกุศลให้แก่ผู้ที่ล่วงลับไปแล้ว โดยอาหารที่จะตั้งเปรตนั้นจะเป็นขนมเดือนสิบทั้ง 5 หรือ 6 อย่าง รวมถึงอาหารอื่น ๆ และผลไม้ที่บรรพชนชอบ ตั้งเปรตเสร็จแล้ว พระสงฆ์จะสวดบังสุกุล โดยจับสายสิญจน์ที่ผูกไว้กับหลาเปรต เมื่อพิธีสงฆ์เสร็จสิ้น ผู้คนจะร่วมกัน “ชิงเปรต” ทั้งนี้นอกจากเพื่อความสนุกสนานแล้วยังมีความเชื่อว่า หากใครได้กินอาหารบนหลาเปรตจะได้รับกุศลแรง เป็นมงคลแก่ตนเองและครอบครัว หลังเสร็จสิ้นการชิงเปรตแล้วส่วนหนึ่งก็จะรับประทานอาหารเที่ยงร่วมกันที่วัด หรือต่างก็แยกย้ายกันกลับบ้านด้วยใจที่อิ่มบุญ ในช่วงเทศกาลประเพณีบุญสารทเดือนสิบนี้เอง จังหวัดนครศรีธรรมราช ได้จัดงานประเพณีเทศกาลบุญสารทเดือนสิบและงานกาชาดขึ้นอย่างยิ่งใหญ่เป็นประจำทุกปี สำหรับปีนี้กำหนดจัดงานระหว่างวันที่ 28 กันยายน - 7 ตุลาคม 2556 มีสถานที่จัดงานหลักที่ สวนสมเด็จพระศรีนครินทร์ 84 ทุ่งท่าลาด ส่วนที่อื่น ๆ ได้แก่ สวนศรีธรรมาโศกราช วัดหน้าพระบรมธาตุและวัดพระมหาธาตุวรมหาวิหาร อ.เมืองนครศรีธรรมราช การจัดงานปีนี้จัดขึ้นเป็นปีที่ 90 แล้ว มีกิจกรรมที่หลากหลายและยิ่งใหญ่กว่าทุกปีที่ผ่านมา เพื่อส่งเสริมและสืบสานเอกลักษณ์วัฒนธรรมประเพณีของจังหวัดนครศรีธรรมราช ให้คงอยู่สืบไป เพื่อส่งเสริมการท่องเที่ยว ภูมิปัญญาท้องถิ่น เสริมสร้างความกตัญญูกตเวทีต่อบรรพชนและความรักสามัคคีในหมู่คณะ เพื่อหารายได้สำหรับใช้จ่ายในกิจการสาธารณกุศลต่าง ๆ
