ประวัติโรงเรียน
โรงเรียนชัยนาทพิทยาคม ก่อตั้งเมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2452 โดยพระไชยนฤนาท ผู้ว่าการเมือง ร่วมกับข้าราชการ พ่อค้าและราษฏรสร้างขึ้น ณ ต. วัดปลัง ต่อมาปลายปี พ.ศ. 2455 เจ้าคุณวิเชียรปราการได้มาเป็นผู้ว่าการเมือง ได้ย้ายที่ว่าการเมืองมาตั้งที่ ต. บ้านกล้วย พ.ศ. 2456 จึงย้ายโรงเรียนโดยสร้างใหม่ ณ บริเวณสนามหญ้าด้านทิศเหนือศาลากลางจังหวัด วันที่ 3 มกราคม พ.ศ. 2457 พระอุปกรศิลปศาสตร์ ศึกษาธิการมณฑลนครสวรรค์ ได้มาเปิดโรงเรียนใช้ชื่อว่า "โรงเรียนประจำจังหวัดชัยนาท" พ.ศ. 2493 ได้เปลี่ยนชื่อ เป็น โรงเรียนชัยนาท "วิชัยบำรุงราษฎร์" ในปีพ.ศ. 2499 กรมการฝึกหัดครูได้มีคำสั่งให้ยุบโรงเรียนฝึกหัดครูชัยนาท โดยมีการมอบอาคารและที่ดินให้กับโรงเรียนใช้เป็นสถานศึกษาต่อไป วันที่ 27 มิถุนายน พ.ศ. 2518 ได้ยุบรวมกับโรงเรียนสตรีชัยนาท "คณะราษฎร์บำรุง 2 " เข้าเป็นโรงเรียนเดียวกัน ตามประกาศของกระทรวงศึกษาธิการ โดยจัดโรงเรียนให้เป็นแบบสหศึกษา ใช้ชื่อว่า "โรงเรียนชัยนาทพิทยาคม" ใช้หลักสูตรมัธยมแบบประสม (ค.ม.ส.) ในปีการศึกษา 2512 ต่อมา พ.ศ. 2519 โรงเรียนชัยนาทพิทยาคมได้เข้าร่วมโครงการพัฒนาโรงเรียนมัธยมศึกษาส่วนภูมิภาค ( คมภ.2 รุ่น 3) ปัจจุบันโรงเรียนชัยนาทพิทยาคมเปิดสอนในช่วงชั้นที่ 3-4 (ระดับชั้นมัธยมศึกษาตอนต้นถึงชั้นมัธยมศึกษาตอนปลาย) ตามหลักสูตรสถานศึกษาขั้นพื้นฐาน มีพื้นที่ทั้งหมด 54 ไร่ 1 งาน 7 ตารางวา ในปีการศึกษา 2557 มีนักเรียน 3,135 คน ครู 137 คน ห้องเรียนทั้งหมด 69 ห้องเรียน จัดชั้นเรียนแบบ 12-12-12 11-11-11 โดยมีผู้อำนวยการคือนายสุรพล ขยันการนาวี
